What OKO needs from you
OKO needs one thing: an https link to a player that can be embedded in a page. You can paste the normal watch link of the video, or the iframe embed code that your platform gives you. From an iframe, OKO takes the address in its src attribute.
OKO recognizes YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Dailymotion, Wistia, Kinescope, Rutube, VK Video and Dzen. For these services it converts the link into the embed form. For YouTube it understands watch links, youtu.be links, embed links, shorts and live links.
If OKO does not recognize the service, it saves the link as you entered it and tries to open it in the embedded player. That works only when the link is meant to be embedded.
Connect the video
- Open the event in Setup and find the “Video” card.
- Paste the link or the embed code into “Player link or embed code”.
- If OKO recognizes the service, it says so. When the link needs converting, press “Normalize”. Until you do, Setup warns you that a different link would be saved.
- Open the page with “Open page” and check that the player loads.
What does not work
A link that starts with http:// cannot be saved. The player must be served over https://.
A link from a recognized service that has no video address in it is refused. Setup tells you the video ID could not be found, and the link cannot be saved until you fix it.
OKO shows the player that your platform provides. If the platform does not allow a video to be embedded, it will not play on the event page.
OKO never hosts, re-encodes or re-streams the video. Viewers load it from your platform.
Start and stop the stream in your own platform
OKO does not start, stop or monitor your stream. You start it in your player or encoder. “Start session” and “End session” in Analytics only start and end the analytics session that measures the page.
The same field works for a live stream and for a recording. After the show you can paste the link to the recording into the same field.
Cover the player before the start
The “Video placeholder” puts a cover image or a glass overlay over the player, with an optional countdown to the event date. You show and hide it from the control room, which is part of Pro and Max.
Frequently asked questions
Does OKO host or stream my video?
No. OKO never hosts, re-encodes or re-streams video. The video stays on your platform, and the event page embeds its player. OKO adds the page, the chat, the blocks and the analytics around it.
Which video platforms does OKO support?
OKO recognizes YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Dailymotion, Wistia, Kinescope, Rutube, VK Video and Dzen. Any other https player link is saved as entered and opened in the embedded player.
Can I paste an iframe embed code instead of a link?
Yes. Paste the whole iframe tag. OKO takes the address from its src attribute and uses it as the player address.
Why will Setup not save my video link?
Two causes are common. The link starts with http:// instead of https://, or it belongs to a recognized service but has no video ID in it. Use the https watch link or the embed code from the video page.
