How to start and end an analytics session, and what the report shows

An analytics session measures your event page between a start and an end, and you control it with “Start session” and “End session” in Analytics. It does not start or stop your video, which you run in your own player.

What a session is

A session is the period in which OKO counts who is on the page and what they do. The session figures count from the moment it starts. When it ends, OKO saves them as a report that does not change afterwards.

Sessions come with Pro and Max. On Core you see live metrics for the page, but no sessions and no reports.

Every session has a planned start and a planned end. By default the plan is the show itself: the event date, for the show duration you set in Setup. A new page uses 120 minutes. You can set other times under “Analytics session” in Setup, or press “Same as the show” to go back to the default.

A session runs only on a published page and only inside the show window, which the publishing article explains.

Start and end a session

  1. A new page starts its session by itself at the planned start. Switch “Start automatically” off in Setup if you prefer to start it by hand.
  2. To start earlier, press “Start session” in Analytics. “Start now” on the plan line does the same, and the planned end stays.
  3. To stop yourself, press “End session”. Otherwise the session ends at its planned end.
  4. Ten minutes before the end, Analytics warns you that the session is about to end. While the session runs, “Extend” moves the end later, but never beyond the end of the show window.
  5. If the lumens run out, the session stops and nothing is owed.

What a session costs

A session costs 1 lumen per minute, charged when it ends and counted in whole minutes. A two-hour session costs 120 lumens.

A teammate needs the “Start/end sessions” permission to start or end a session.

What you see live

Analytics shows the viewers online, the peak, the split between desktop and mobile, unique visitors, retention, watch time, geography, chat activity, clicks on the banner, the call to action and the cards, and the leads from your forms.

Without a session, the audience numbers are all-time totals for the page. During a session they count that session only.

Unique visitors counts everyone who opened the page during the session, once. The peak counts connections, so two tabs of one person count twice.

The city comes from the viewer's IP address, so over a VPN or a mobile network it can be a neighboring city. OKO uses the IP address only to look up the place and does not store it. It keeps the country, the region and the city.

The report

When a session ends, OKO saves its report. Open it from the session history in Analytics with “Report”.

The report shows the peak and unique viewers, total views, average and median watch time, how long viewers stayed, chat messages, clicks on each block, geography, poll results and a minute-by-minute timeline.

You can use “Download PDF”, “Download PNG”, “Print” and “Export Excel”. The Excel file has sheets for the summary, geography, the promo banner, cards, the call to action and polls. A teammate needs the “Download reports” permission.

A saved report does not change. Where OKO could not measure something, the report says so instead of showing zero.

Frequently asked questions

Does ending an analytics session stop my webinar?

No. “Start session” and “End session” only start and end the measurement. Your video runs in your own player, and OKO does not control it.

How much does an analytics session cost?

1 lumen per minute, charged when the session ends. A two-hour session costs 120 lumens. Sessions are part of Pro and Max.

Can I get a report without starting a session?

No. A report is the saved result of a session. On Core there are live metrics but no sessions, so there is no report.

What does median watch time mean?

Half of the viewers watched longer than this time. It is more stable than the average, because a tab left open does not inflate it.
